“Reiki is an excellent tool to heal our original wounding, heal the stuck emotional energy, and free ourselves from old survival patterns that don’t serve our higher purpose.” – Christine Renee
Hi thanks for stopping by I guess, you like me, are interested in natural energy healing, and perhaps using reiki energy to do this, but want to know more maybe? Well you’ve come to right place. This article’s intention is to provide newbies to this genre with some understanding and to also share my perspective for those that might wish to engage and discuss.
I will outline what reiki is and how it is totally `natural`,
introduce how anyone can use our own natural ability for healing;
Provide a brief explanation of how our energy bodies work.
The effect of `healing` with Reiki : – what it will and will not do and some case scenarios.
Your definition of natural; healing; energy; might be very different from mine, which is based in the spiritual or more Eastern view point rather than our general Western medicine view (not that I have any problem with doctors, I haven’t); I find the great thing with an alternative holistic approach is the control comes back to you the individual and can be very successful alongside our Western medicines – just need to monitor the effect.
So there’s no confusion I would like to highlight what I mean by:
Natural – no chemical influence
Healing – our physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual sense of being, improved, balanced and flowing
Energy – we are energetic beings and just as blood and lymph flows through us we also have energy pathways too. These are known as, and called:- Chi, Ki, Prana, Awen, Life Force, meridians for example.
Now with that cleared up – I will introduce you to
What Reiki Is
Well to me, it’s a life changer, but that’s for another day……..
Reiki has been around for many, many years and in that time it has evolved from something secretive, special, only for the chosen few to use/give: to it emerging as a Universal rite for all, as we are accepting of the realisation that we are electromagnetic beings. We all have the skills/ability (if you want to call it that) within us – at our hands, sort of thing. Because we are after all, all one! Ki, Energy, Chi, Prana whatever you wish to call it, so this is not exclusive!
The name Reiki (Japanese in origin) comes from the kangi Rei meaning “god’s wisdom or higher power” and Ki meaning “life force energy” so basically – Reiki is “spiritually guided Life Force Energy
The Experience of having Reiki

Reiki is known for inducing relaxation, as we relax we reduce our stresses and in turn this enables and promotes the healing process in our bodies:
So how does this happen?
Well generally a reiki session is carried out by a practitioner who uses what is often called “laying on hands” or “directing of hands”, this is how the energy is channelled to the receiver: The practitioner goes through a ritual of connecting to their Reiki Master(s) with intention to connect to the higher vibrating energy of “reiki” and then to channel the energy through their body, using their hands as connectors to the energy of the receiver; there is no necessity to be touching: this is individual choice.
The process/experience is formed from the fact our hands are electromagnetic and so is our “life force energy” “Ki”, which flows through our bodies (it is that which causes us to be alive). This connection can and does cause a physical warmth, even a tingling sensation for some but not everyone.
A Practitioner using their hands, follows the movement of the flow of energy through the receiver’s body; sometimes following a specific process or others, might following their instinct, but generally with the intention of clearing the energy vortexes known as chakras, which are throughout the body, enabling the energy to be free flowing thus for the chakras to be able to fully function and to optimally support our organs. Often flow might get stuck or stagnant in areas or even hyper (run at speed), the idea is that it runs in a balanced manner. This is fundamentally what a Reiki Practitioner’s intention in a general treatment would be, Totally painless and non-intrusive. No undressing or removal of clothing required. No revealing of problem(s) is necessary, but can take place from choice and request of client to practitioner.
The environment is usually comfortable calm, serene; there may be music, candles, incense and it’s possible there might be crystals in use. The intention is that the environment is one of calmness, comfort and safety, sufficiently so that the receiver can ease into the relaxation and be accepting of the vibration of the energies being channelled.
Some practitioners have their clients lie on a treatment table others might use a chair which leans back and allows your feet to be off the ground. The practitioner may wish to access your front and back areas and so positioning can provide ease of access to do this. Your practitioner can be male of female.
Why Have it?
If we feel low, under the weather, life is stressful, and/or we are worried or anxious, our life force energy may well be low, slow, sticky, sluggish whatever word you would use. Being in this state and over time, then we are much more likely to get sick, if it persists, even become diseased. Equally if our energy is high, buzzing, light, we will define ourselves as happy, joyous, healthy and full of vitality, with no illness or disease. We feel good, confident and full of life…….Reiki can help you to lift your energy, the calm, relaxed, time out, allows for the body to process and rejuvenate or realise what’s needed.
A treatment will leave you feeling chilled, relaxed, even wonderful, like you have a glow of radiance running through and around you. It can also drain you if you have released a lot of heavy energy, be mindful of this……It passes and then you get the lift.
Reiki treats the whole person, this includes the body, the emotions, the mind and spirit, creating so many beneficial effects which infuse our bodies` systems producing the feelings of relaxation, of peace, security and well-being.
Supporting our bodies to be in these states regularly (we are not naturally in these states permanently) can and does produce phenomenal changes within ourselves. We can enjoy this through self supporting and giving or, choosing to receive from others.
Ultimately it becomes a choice for a way of life.
Short Term – Long Term
Reiki can have an immediate effect, as practitioners’ know, if they were to be called to a possible bone fracture or clean break, one would not look to heal the bone until it was set in place. However if the pain was known to be a sprain and they provided Reiki healing, then there would be an almost immediate effect on the healing process. I can personally give my word on this from my own experience. I had a very nasty sprain – expected fracture, x-ray proved there was no break. The Senior Nurse Practitioner on duty gave me a boot, expectation I would need support walking for about 4 to 6 weeks. We discussed Reiki and she agreed that I should return on the Monday to the fracture clinic for a check-up. This was Friday evening. By Monday I was walking fine, swelling had gone, bruising was showing but no boot was required. Plus I can report that I have had no residual pain which often is the case with a sprain. The Senior Practitioner and I just smiled at each other.
Reiki is often being suggested by NHS in support of taking medication, long term and deep seated issues be they pain or emotion based, the gentle energy of Reiki has been shown to have an effect, not always very noticeable but when consideration is given to the starting point, and the change over time then there will be a difference and acknowledgement. Reiki is often being used to support clients having cancer treatments and more and more to support those with mental health problems. It is popular if that is the appropriate term for those who are moving toward their passing, help for some in order to ease their transition.
Reiki Precepts

Just for today: I will not worry; I will not anger; I will be grateful; I will work with honour and diligence and do my best; I will have compassion and goodwill towards all living beings:
The form of the words often vary but the intention is always the same.
Usui understood that it is not always possible to uphold the 5 precepts all the time hence these mantras/beliefs were led by “just for today” to make them possible, more achievable, for everyday people. After all his healing was for the everyday man.
Conclusion
If my writing of this piece has engaged your interest to this point, then I sincerely suggest and hope, that you go and experience a session of Reiki for yourself – you may well find that not only do you enjoy and get a benefit from it, but that you want to gain this feeling of calm it produces for you more often.
I really hope you allow yourself the opportunity:))
